Anybody know of a shop or independent artist who makes custom cut metal signs? Google is giving me mostly street sign-type vendors or large companies with suspicious websites.

Snow Removal Nov. 9th, 2012 @ 08:41 pm
Is there such a thing as a snow removal service for cars parked on the street? I live in the Powderhorn neighborhood, Lake Street side, and because of some back issues may not be able to dig my car out in a heavy storm.

A couple of years ago some gentlemen came around with a snow blower in their pickup and offered to clear cars for $10... I should have gotten their phone numbers dangit! Any recommendations?

Looking for people who share a love of adventuresome music Nov. 4th, 2012 @ 02:37 pm

Diverse Emerging Music Organization (DEMO) has immediate volunteer opportunities for music lovers who want to hear new, original music. Our volunteer needs include collecting donations during music events, assisting with marketing opportunities, and/or joining the board as an active voting member to guide the organization in the continued enhancement of the local music scene.

A bit about the organization:

Diverse Emerging Music Organization (DEMO) is a ten year old grass roots non-profit organization started by former First Avenue general manager Steve McClellan. Our organization strives to help the rising stars of the Twin Cities music scene. Our methods involve helping young artists develop their stage presence through regular showcases. DEMO nurtures their creativity through networking opportunities with veteran musicians. We assist new artists with marketing strategies to lead to better promotion of their music. Regular showcases currently happen at Acadia Cafe in Minneapolis and Wild Tymes in St Paul. We also produce single shows at several venues such as The Cedar Cultural Center, The Varsity, 7th Street Entry, Amsterdam Bar, and others.

DEMO believes that the most inspired music happens right in our own backyards. We share a passion for continued development of a rich local music scene. Our board consists of musicians and community members who enjoy local music. Board members and volunteers have the opportunity to enjoy dozens of diverse local bands within the genres of rock, pop, jazz, ska, punk, metal, hip hop, and more at DEMO shows and throughout the local music scene. For any DEMO board member or volunteer, there are occasions to request complimentary tickets to shows happening within the Twin Cities.

DEMO faces challenges that require commitment, networking skills, management expertise, technical skills and hands-on action. We are seeking to grow our organization with people of all ages and experience levels who appreciate a grass roots approach. While many of our board members and volunteers already play active roles in the areas of education development, marketing, fund raising, and volunteer coordinating, we welcome the experience and enthusiasm you (or someone you know) may bring in these or other areas.

Check out http://www.demomn.org or email demomn612 @ gmail.com for more information or to learn about opportunities and upcoming board meetings.

Tubing for kids Mar. 12th, 2012 @ 12:59 pm
Is there a tubing river that is "okay" for kids? I'm remembering Apple River and while it was very fun as a teen, it's not appropriate for my Girl Scout troop.

Thanks in advance.

cheap places to buy furniture that will deliver Dec. 12th, 2011 @ 10:52 pm
Hi, I'm looking for places in or near St. Paul such as but not necessarily thrift stores that have cheap furniture for sale and have delivery options available. I ask because my only method of transportation is the bus, and there's only so heavy a box of 'to be assembled' furniture I can lug around on my own. :Da Google hasn't been of much help, so I have come here for suggestions and to see what my options are. Thanks in advance! If it's relevant, the part of St. Paul we're talking about is about 10min from Regions Hospital, north of Lowertown.

Darkly Through the Light Waters: Twin Cities Tales -- A Fringe Festival storytelling performance Aug. 3rd, 2011 @ 02:40 pm
My husband Michael Merriam (mmerriam) got into MN Fringe Festival off the wait list. We found out Monday! His first performance is Saturday!

Are there any good places to hike and camp within, say 30 miles of the Metro? Hiking is more important than the camping.
